Arriving in Grenada with a Pet On Board

Import Permit

Grenada requires that all pets entering have an Import Permit. See this Grenada Import Permit Rules document.

The owner of the animal(s) should obtain an Import Permit Issued by the Veterinary Officer of the Grenada Ministry of Agriculture.

This Permit should then be presented at the Port of Entry when clearing in.

Permit Requirements

  • The animal(s) have been vaccinated against rabies within twelve (12) months prior to arrival. Grenada states that they do not accept 2 or 3 year rabies vaccines.
  • The animal(s) are accompanied by a health certificate issued by a Veterinarian within the two (2) weeks prior to arrival.
  • The Grenada Veterinary Officer is notified of the Port of Entry and the time of arrival.

Complete the Pet Permit Application Form. The application forms are available on the Grenada Ministry of Agricultural website.

Send the completed permit application to the Veterinary Department along with the Veterinarian issued health certificate and rabies certificates, for approval and signature by the Grenada authorities, at least two (2) weeks prior to arrival in Grenada. These can be sent via email to grenadalivestock@gmail.com

WARNING: Poison is regularly used where sheep and goats are roaming free. Read this report so you can take due care of your pets when visiting Grenada. Hundreds of dogs suffer from poisoning on Carriacou every year. This is a growing problem - see pressure group Irates of the Caribbean website for more details. Always keep your dog on lead when going ashore and stay vigilant.

Support for Cruisers and Remote Island Pets:

  • Carriacou Animal Hospital offers ‘CarriaVet,’ a telehealth service bringing expert veterinary care to cruisers and remote islanders — all while funding the rebuild of their hurricane-damaged clinic.
  • See this Caribbean Compass article about the service for more details and contact info.
