Grenada Pre-Arrival Procedures for Yachts

Grenada uses the SailClear advance web notification service. Boats should pre-register and submit their arrival notification online with SailClear and note the notification ID number.

For a full explanation of this service and other web clearance services in the Caribbean see report: Eastern Caribbean Cruising: Clearance Procedures Simplified

Ports of Entry

Grenada Customs have offices at the following marinas as Customs manned Ports of Entry:

  • Prickly Bay Marina, Prickly Bay, Grenada
  • Port Louis Marina, St George's, Grenada
  • Carriacou Marine, Tyrell Bay, Carriacou
  • Grenada Marine, St. David’s, Grenada

It is possible for pleasure craft to obtain clearance services at the Sea Ports of Entry if services are not available at the Marinas.

It is possible to pay an agency to assist with clearance from other ports, however, this will incur quite a substantial extra charge and is not necessary for typical cruisers.

Note: Click on the anchor symbol in the blue “Explore Country” drop down, to see ports of entry clearly marked and find additional details about the intended Ports of Entry.

Grenada Arrival Procedures for Yachts

Proceed to a Port of Entry and fly the Q Flag and the courtesy flag of Grenada from the starboard spreader of your main mast while clearance formalities are carried out. Yachts may anchor, use moorings or go into the Marinas as appropriate and with reservations or coordination.

Note: Grenada uses the Red Right Returning Rule, which means red buoys mark the starboard side when approaching.

Customs and Immigration clearance must be completed by the captain before any crew member goes ashore.

Opening Hours:

Clearance offices are at the above listed marinas.

During the cruising season, they are open Mon–Fri: 09:00-16:00 (probably with a closure for lunch), Sat–Sun: 09:00-14:00 [overtime fee on weekends/holidays/outside of hours]. These hours may vary from port to port.

If a vessel arrives after hours (16:00), the captain must ensure that no crew goes ashore for any reason, until clearance has been completed at the first opportunity (i.e., immediately the next morning).

Note that towards the end of the season, offices tend to close half an hour earlier, so be sure to arrive in plenty of time to avoid being charged overtime.

See Documents and Fees for additional details.

Domestic Cruising in Grenada

Customs issue a cruising permit that is valid for 1 month and can be renewed. See Documents and Fees for additional details.

Grenada Departure Procedure for Yachts

Vessels clear out of Grenada at the same offices that can be used to clear in, as listed above in Ports of Entry.

Expect to pay any outstanding cruising permit fees before being cleared out and possibly a departure fee.

Clear out during normal working hours up to 24 hours before departure. It is advisable to arrive at the office before 15:00, in order to complete formalities before the end of the working day.

See Documents and Fees for additional details.

If departing for Trinidad, all yachts transiting should submit a float plan to the Trinidad & Tobago Coastguard (TTCG). See Security for more details.
