Mar 20, 2025

Two useful European Commission links for traveling with pets in the EU:

1. Travelers' Points of Entry if coming from a third country with a dog, cat or ferret – country specific information

2. Animal health requirements applicable to dogs, cats and ferrets moved into EU countries – country specific information

Denmark's Rules if coming from an EU country

Dogs and Cats must:

  • Have a European pet passport.
  • Be identified with a microchip, or tattoo (if it was done before 03/07/2011) and as long as it remains legible.
  • Be vaccinated against rabies by an authorized veterinarian at least 21 days prior to its movement to Denmark.

Your pet dog must be registered in the Danish Dog Register no later than 4 weeks upon arrival in Denmark.

It is not permitted to bring a dog under the age of eight weeks into Denmark unless it is transferred with its mother.

You are not allowed to enter with a kitten under 12 weeks old unless it travels with its mother.

A Puppy/Kitten Declaration must be filled out and signed if your pets are:

  • either under 12 weeks old and not yet vaccinated against rabies, or
  • between 12 and 16 weeks old and vaccinated against rabies, but that vaccination is not yet valid.

Denmark's Rules if coming from outside the EU

To introduce a pet from a third country, you must enter with your pet through one of the designated Travelers’ Points of Entry in Denmark.

Dogs and Cats must:

  • Be marked with a microchip or tattoo
  • Be accompanied by a Veterinary Certificate issued by a veterinary authority in the country of dispatch. If your dog or cat has a valid EU Pet Passport, and all certifications were written in the passport, a Veterinary Certificate is no longer needed.
  • Be vaccinated against rabies with a valid vaccine at the time of travel
  • If you come from a country not listed in Annex II of Regulation (EU) 577/2013, your pet will require a rabies antibody titration test.

Your pet dog must be registered in the Danish Dog Register no later than 4 weeks upon arrival in Denmark.

Puppy/Kitten Declaration must be filled out and signed if your pets are:

  • either under 12 weeks old and not yet vaccinated against rabies, or
  • between 12 and 16 weeks old and vaccinated against rabies, but that vaccination is not yet valid.

Potentially Dangerous Dogs

Some breeds are subject to strict control and regulations so you need to check your dog is not in that category.
