Denmark - Clearance

ALERTS

European Entry and Exit System (EES)

With the introduction of the Europe-wide entry and exit system (EES)  (now delayed until October 2025), biometric data will need to be recorded on entry and exit for third country travelers. While this negates the need to have passports stamped, it will require a visit to an official office at a port of entry, therefore flexible clearance at marinas may no longer be possible once it is implemented. It is not yet known how rigidly EES will be enforced for pleasure boat users.

Border Controls

Notice 12/11/2024 – 11/05/2025: Denmark has temporarily re-introduced Border Controls at all internal borders (land, air, and sea) and land and sea borders with Germany citing "serious threats to public policy and internal security posed by continuous terrorism-related events and organised crime, as well as Russia's ongoing aggression in Ukraine, Russian attempts of espionage, and acts of physical sabotage by individuals linked to Russia, along with the impact of Middle Eastern armed conflicts and conflicts in Africa increase migratory pressure, irregular entries, and risk infiltration by radicalised individuals."

Russian-Flag

Notice April 2022: Russian flagged or registered yachts are not permitted to enter any ports in Denmark. See news item for details.

Denmark Arrival Procedures for Yachts

As a member of the European Union, EU regulations apply. Any vessel arriving from a non-Schengen country must fly the Q flag and directly proceed to a port of entry for immigration and customs clearance. There are usually no customs or border controls if a vessel enters from a Schengen country. No registration at the port authorities is required, but occasionally an official (Police) may check that Passports are in order and say that they should be stamped. It is advisable that crew members arriving by plane request their passports are stamped at the airport.

Notes:

  • It should be noted that duty-free allowances are very small and amounts over this are declarable. Customs do check yachts, so if in doubt it is advisable to report to Customs. A comprehensive list of all safety equipment on board may be requested by Customs.
  • If you are borrowing the vessel you are skippering from a friend, you should carry an authorisation and a copy of the valid boat registration from the country of origin.
