COVID-19: OPEN

• COVID-19 related restrictions on entry to Denmark were lifted at the end of March, 2022.

History:

• Mid-March 2020 all borders to Denmark closed to non-citizens. Foreign yachts were not allowed to enter any Danish ports.
• Domestic cruising continued to be possible without restrictions, although many ports and marinas were closed.
• No ports were open for transiting yachts seeking refuge/supplies, although in an emergency situation no Danish port would refuse access for a vessel in distress.
• On 15 June, 2020, Copenhagen opened its borders to tourists from Germany, Iceland and Norway. There were no restrictions for travelers arriving by yacht from these countries.
• Permanent residents in the EU and Schengen areas as well as the UK could also enter with a "recognizable purpose".
• Yacht owners whose boats were in Denmark were also permitted to enter (as boats are classed as holiday homes).
• On 1 July, 2020, Denmark's borders re-opened to most European countries and yachts from all EU Member States, Schengen countries and theUK (except Portugal and parts of Sweden) could enter. Citizens from all other countries were still banned. It was possible to sail to Denmark in your own boat (or in a rented boat) if you could provide proof that you would stay for at least six nights in a marina.
• At the start of September, the six night rule was abolished and there was no longer a minimum-stay requirement.
• In early February, Denmark went back into a restrictive lockdown due to a rise in cases. The Danish government had a very cautious approach to reopening, which happened slowly as more and more people got vaccinated. Everyone who wanted to enter Denmark had to take a test and subsequently isolate themselves for ten days. Borders were only open to those travelers with a "worthy purpose" for coming.
• On 13 May, 2021, borders re-opened with the current protocols.
• December 2021 protocols were simplified with testing prior to arrival required for the majority of travelers.
• 29 March, 2022, all travel restrictions relating to Covid were lifted.
