Chile - Immigration

Apr 15, 2025

Passports must be valid for six months.

Immigration Procedure:

Permanencia Transitoria permit:

Most countries are given up to a 90-day stay on arrival (the Permanencia Transitoria permit (subcategory 1)). This is applicable for foreigners who want to enter Chile for recreational or tourism purposes.

It is valid for 90 continuous days from the date of entry into the national territory and may be extended once for 90 more days (see Other Visa Information below).

If you wish to stay longer you need to exit the country and re-enter.

The permit is granted to foreigners by the border control authority on arrival, or by the Chilean consulate abroad.

Note: No prior authorization or visa is required for entry and stay in Chile for those who come to the country as a holder of a Permanencia Transitoria permit.

Foreign nationals who require prior authorization or a visa to enter the country must apply to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the consular representations of Chile abroad.

See the Chile Visa and Tariff Chart for more information.

Since 2020, Australian citizens must obtain a visa before arrival in Chile. The application is handled by the consulate where it was submitted and is processed electronically through SAC Ciudadanos.

Other Visa Information:

Extension of Permanencia Transitoria permit:

The application for an extension of Transitory Permanence is made on the Digital Procedures Portal of the National Migration Service (Servicio Nacional de Migraciones - SERMIG).

The cost is $100 USD equivalent in local currency. Minors (under the age of 18) are not required to pay.
