Luperon - Boatyards

The Maritima del Atlantico, SRL or Maratlantico Boatyard located in Ocean World Marina at  Puerto Plata on the north coast of the Dominican Republic is a professional working yard with full permits.  It has a 70 ton monohull travel lift and soon to be in 2024 a 30 ton maximum beam 27.5ft catamaran travel lift.  It also has the only fuel dock on the north coast.

For any queries regarding work needing to be done on your vessel in Luperón Bay, then you must go to see the Armada and possibly apply for a permit with them depending on what work needs to be done, i.e. no painting, polishing, mechanical work that may pollute the ecologically sensitive bay.

You are not allowed to work on your boat as the bay is a marine reserve. Papo, Andy and Domingo are the only people with permission from ports by way of paid permits to be able to do any work in the bay (contact them on VHF Ch. 68)

Undertaking work on your boat in the mangroves is also prohibited as is anywhere on the water. All works that are seen as polluting the ecosystem, must be carried out at a licensed marina or boatyard (Ocean World Marina in Confresi, Puerto Plata, hold full environmental permits, but cannot allow sandblasting of steel vessels so contact them prior to arriving)..

Please Note: It is illegal to hire the services of a non-DR citizen for any work on your boat. Being a member of a local sailing association or being on a handed out welcome and information list does not allow them to work legally in the DR. Should they claim to be a resident with a DR company then you must ask to see proof of same.
