Cyprus - Pets

Two useful European Commission links for traveling with pets in the EU:

REPUBLIC OF CYPRUS

If coming from an EU country

Dogs and cats must:

• Be identified with a microchip, or tattoo (if it was done before 03/07/2011) and as long as it remains legible.
• Be vaccinated against rabies with a valid vaccine at the time of travel. Rabies vaccinations administered by a veterinary practitioner not authorized by an EU country will render the EU Pet Passport invalid for travel.

Accompanying documents:

• Have a European pet passport.
• A certified document that the animal arrived on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus from an EU Member State.

No exceptions are granted, and animals less than 15 weeks old, and therefore not vaccinated with a valid rabies vaccine, are not allowed to enter Cyprus.

If coming from outside the EU

To introduce a pet from a third country, you must enter with your pet through one of the designated Travelers’ Points of Entry. The owner must notify the Provincial Veterinary Office of the animal's point of entry into Cyprus, at least 48 hours before arrival, the date and time of arrival, as well as the name of the ship or flight number by which the animal will arrive in Cyprus.

Dogs and Cats must:

• be identified with a microchip, or tattoo
• be vaccinated against rabies with a valid vaccine at the time of travel

Accompanying documents:

• An animal Health Certificate along with a written declaration by the owner or the authorized person accompanying the animals to ensure the animals are not moved for the aim of selling or transferring ownership.
• European Pet Passport in the case of re-entry of an animal from a third country, in which the existence of a valid anti-rabies vaccination must be certified.
• Certified document proving that the animal entered, either directly or through an EU Member State, the territory of the Republic of Cyprus from the third country listed in the health certificate.
• If the animal(s) come from a country not listed in Annex II of Regulation (EC) No. 577/2013 titration of neutralizing antibodies against the rabies virus is required and must be done by an EU-approved laboratory.

Potentially Dangerous Dogs

Some breeds are subject to strict control and regulations so you need to check your dog is not in that category.

TRNC

• Pets must be microchipped.
• A valid health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian.
• Proof of rabies vaccination administered at least 21 days before entry and rabies titer test.
• An import permit obtained from the Directorate of the Department of Veterinary Medicine. The application must be made in Turkish or English. The import permit is valid for 60 days. E-mail: info.veteriner@gov.ct.tr.
