The local currency is the Belizean dollar.
Belize dollar BZ$. The fixed rate of exchange is BZ$2 = US$1.
Most restaurants and shops will readily accept US dollars. They will generally give you change in Belizean dollars unless you request otherwise.
Major credit cards are accepted at the majority of resorts/businesses on the mainland, but many businesses on the Cays only accept cash.
While most banks have ATMs, only Barclays Bank offers ATMs that accept foreign cards. There are only two Barclays Banks in Belize – one in Belize City and the other in Dangriga.
Banking Hours: 8:00 am – 2:00 pm Monday to Friday.
