Yacht Fees for entering Belize

Charges will vary from port to port and do tend to depend on the official on duty on the day you arrive.  Punta Gorda is the most legal and cheapest port to visit.  San Pedro is the most corrupt and expensive followed by Big Creek.

Immigration Fees:

There should be no immigration fees - Punta Gorda does not charge.

However, Belize City is starting to charge US$50.00, as is Placencia. San Pedro may charge as high as US$100.

If you require a visa, single-entry visas are valid for 6 months and cost BZD$200.00

Visitor’s Permit Extension fee for all nationals - BZD$200.00 per extension - which is normally for a month.

Customs Fees:

There should be no Customs fees - Punta Gorda does not charge and sometimes Belize City doesn't either.

However,  most other ports charge BZD$50.00 except San Pedro, which can charge as high as US$100 for arrival and departure.

Department of Health:

There should be no charge during normal working hours. BZD$50 will be charged if overtime is involved, however, in San Pedro and Placencia overtime charges may be as high as US$100. See notes below on overtime costs.

Health Inspection (Agriculture - BAHA):

  • Small vessels less than 50ft long and 10ft wide: US$25.00
  • Large vessels more than 50ft long and 10ft wide: BZD$65.00 and BZD$50.00 per hour

Port Authority:

  • Admin fee: BZD$100
  • Boarding for entry: BZD$30
  • Clearance: BZD$30
  • Navigation fee: BZD$3.00 per GRT
  • Dues: BZD$30 (first 48 hrs), BZD$10 for every 24 hrs thereafter.

Departure Taxes:

All ports charge a Protected Area Conservation Trust Tax of BZD$7.50 on departure.

Punta Gorda also charges the following departure fees:
BZD$2.50 - Border Development Fee
BZD$30.00 - Border Exit Fee

See additional Customs fee for departure clearance in San Pedro - noted above under Customs.

Overtime:

Charges apply before 08:00 in the morning; 12:00 to 13:00 and after 4:00 pm.

These are "mafia" fees, so may vary from port to port.

Immigration: BZD$20 per crew member
Customs: BZD$20
BAHA: BZD$30
Port Authority: BZD$25

There are also mileage fees charged in some ports if officials require transport to complete clearance. These are not charged in Punta Gorda or San Pedro, but, in Belize City and Placencia they are charged.

Park Fees:

Fees are charged for sailing in the marine parks, the eight of which cover most of the water inside the barrier reef. These vary from US$5 to US$10 per person, per day. These fees are not for use of the mooring buoys, which are now in place in some of the cayes, but are simply a fee to be in the marine reserve.

In practice, there appear to be large variations in the fees actually charged.

Other Fees:

Valid import Permit for Pets

  • The processing fee is BZ$50.00 or US$25.00.
  • A BZ$25.00 fee applies when the permit is faxed to you.
  • Pet inspection fee BZ$20.00
