Note: From 14th April 2017, the runway here is out of commission (except for emergency Medivac flights) and so there will not be any flights to/from the UK or onward to St. Helena.
Visits to St. Helena are possible on RMS St Helena. Those who do so usually spend about two weeks in St. Helena while the ship completes its run to Cape Town and on its return sail back to Ascension to catch a flight to the UK.
There is a monthly shipping service from the United Kingdom by British Ministry of Defence chartered merchant navy vessels. An American supply ship calls about four times a year.
There is no longer any taxi service on the island.
If wishing to rent a car, it is advisable to book one in advance. This can be arranged at the Tourist Office or through reservations at Andrew Weir Shipping.
Remember if you arrive at the weekend, you won't be able to rent a car.
