Clarence Bay, Georgetown - Provisions And Laundry

Apr 27, 2025

There is a small grocery store in Georgetown (Solomons Shop) which has some fresh produce.  Groceries can also be purchased from the Naafi shop at Travellers Hill – again a car will be needed.

The one in the main square has the better selection especially if the supply ship RMS St. Helena has called recently.

Sterling and US dollars are accepted everywhere on the island and the supermarket will also accept Euros in an emergency. The selection is poorer and more expensive than on St. Helena.

As on many remote islands, fresh provisions can be in short supply and awareness of the resident's own needs should be considered when deciding on the quantities to buy.  Ask the advice of the store manager.

Fresh fish and sometimes crayfish, may be purchased from fishermen landing their catch at the Pierhead most mornings.

There is no bakery on the island.

Laundry

There is a washing machine in the new facilities building (£1 a load).
