The hotel used to be able to organise diesel. You will need to check if this is still possible. It will be via jerry can if possible at all (there are no vehicles on the island).
Locals can assist with bringing the diesel over from the main island. See comments at bottom of the page for cruisers' recommendations. Cruisers advise against contracting young boys for purchasing diesel as carrying substantial amounts of cash into the city is not safe. You have to pay the cost of the water taxi, motorbike, and cargo surcharge on the water taxi, plus the diesel cost and some extra for their lunch. Always insist on setting an agreed price in advance.
NOTE: Be aware that if you borrow jerry cans, they may have been used for who-knows-what in the past. Filter ALL fuel as it goes into your tanks.
Propane/LPG tanks may be able to fill in Les Cayes. Be careful if they "exchange" the tanks. Even if the fittings match, the tanks may be old or beat-up and could possibly leak.
