Restrictions for Yachts in Guadeloupe

Night Sailing: This is not permitted in Guadeloupe.

Chartering: Illegal in French territory, although transit with non-French passengers is allowed.

Allowing Locals On Board: Any foreign flagged vessel (i. e. Not registered in the French Antilles) cannot carry a local Guadeloupe National without specific reason, e.g. mechanic for a specific sea test, pilot etc. This is an old rule designed to stop locals acquiring foreign flagged vessels and avoiding Octroi des Mer and other local taxes. It is hardly ever enforced, however, random checks are made and fines can be high. It is however to possible to invite a local for a drink or a meal when at anchor or in a marina (i.e. not moving).

Anchoring: Anchoring is prohibited in many areas of the Guadeloupe National Park and mooring buoys provided by the Park Authority must be used.  Anchoring at Les Saintes is not permitted in or near the mooring fields.  Moorings must be used which can be booked in advance.

Nav&Co is an App that was released by the Guadeloupe National Park Authority in 2022, designed to help boaters identify marine protected areas and understand the regulations and thus plan their route around the island. Download at the Android store and Apple store.

See the National Park regulations here.

Fishing: Recreational fishing is prohibited in the National Park. The taking of turtles, corals, sponges or sea plants is prohibited and catching several species of fish is restricted. See this website for more information.

The following areas are Maritime Reserves and may have additional restrictions on fishing: Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin, Ilet Pigeon (Pointe de Malendure - Pointe Mahault), Petite-Terre, Banc du Crabier (NE of Desirade).

Diving: Pigeon Island - Cousteau Park:

There are limited moorings here - some for commercial dive operators and some for private boats.  Fuchsia (red moorings) are reserved for commercial operations and no overnight stays are permitted.  See the Parc Nationale de la Guadeloupe website for more information
