Rental cars are available for approximately 10 Euros a day. Check when you rent your car about getting back from the car rental office after drop off. National, for example, is 5 miles out of Deshaies and not on a bus route. Roads on the island are windy and steep.
There is a good bus service with connections to most places on the Island http://horariodebuses.com/EN/gp
Note that taxis don't run on Sundays.
