Egypt Fees for Yachts

The Ministry of Maritime Transport has issued new procedures for yacht entry into Egypt and this has greatly increased fees for entry and services. Currently new fees are being implemented in all ports, except Suez Canal ports (Suez, Ismailia and Port Said). It is Noonsite's recommendation to appoint an agent well in advance of your arrival, who can correctly guide you as to which port is the cheapest to check-into.

Government Fees

The following Government fees will be charged by the marina at your first port of entry into Egypt, and are paid electronically by the marina to the Government. These fees are approximate and will vary depending on the size of your vessel. Some ports (such as Port Ghalib and Hurghada) have additional arrival/departure fees which are expensive, so it is strongly recommended to speak with your agent prior to arrival to confirm the best arrival port for you. The below fees are for Port Ghalib.

Arrival:

  1. General Quarantine Admin. - $11.60
  2. Border Guard Intelligence - $7.96
  3. Marina - approx $500.00 [does include at least 2 days berthing, but not water and electricity]
  4. National Telecome Regulatory Authority - $387.00

Government Invoice: Total US$927.56 + 228.00 Egyptian pounds

Additional arrival fees include:

  • Immigration: Entry visa stamp US$25 + US$2 admin fees.
If a visa is not required, there are no immigration fees due on arrival or departure.
  • E-visa fees payable in advance: US$25 for 90 day single entry / US$60 for 90 day multiple entry
  • Port officials: 4000.00 Egyptian pounds (approx. $130)
  • Agency Fees: US$150 - 300 (to include Customs temporary clearance + Coast Guard permission + Immigration process + Port State process + Quarantine process).
  • Port Clearance (Sailing Permit) - only required if passports stamped. This varies between ports.
    e.g.
Port Said: Zero (since Feb. 2024)
    Port Suez: US$185 - up to 60ft long, US$280 - over 60ft long.

Departure:

  1. Marina - US$116.00 [does include some berthing, but not water and electricity]
  2. Egyptian Authority for Maritime Safety (marine inspection) - US$65.00

Government Invoice: Total US$181.00 + 228.00 Egyptian pounds

Additional departure fees include:

  • Port officials: 4000.00 Egyptian pounds (approx. US$200)
  • Yachts of 19m and over have to pay between US$179 and US$280 US$ for port clearance (sailing permit).

Suez Canal Fees

These will be indicated by the Suez Canal officials who board the yacht on arrival. There is no Suez Canal measurement for yachts up to 300 tons, on the basis that the yacht’s tonnage is recorded in the yacht’s registration certificate. This means that determining the fees for canal transits no longer depends on the estimated tonnage made by the SCA, but instead on the actual registered tonnage of the yacht. This saves both time and money.

  • The fee is approx. US$ 7 per ton
  • Total fee may vary from US$ 300-700

There are several other fees to pay, including agency fees.

For much more detail on fees for a Suez Canal Transit, as well as fees for Port Said and Port Suez, Noonsite Members get exclusive access to Noonsite's document: Transit Information for the Suez Canal, available via the green special offers bar at the top of the Egypt Noonsite pages.

Notes on Fees:

  • If entering Egypt purely to transit the Suez Canal northbound, it is recommended at this time to clear into Egypt in Suez, where fees are substantially lower than elsewhere. It is not clear, however, how long this will last, so check with your agent prior to arrival.
  • It is always better to contact the marina or the shipping agent before arrival in order to confirm agency fees, berthing fees, government charges and the procedure on arrival in case there have been any changes.
  • Fees are payable only once per visit to Egypt at any licensed port of entry. The marina will issue a receipt which should be shown at subsequent ports or marinas so as not to have to pay additional fees for formalities.
  • This applies to tourist marinas (such as Port Ghalib, Abu Tig Marina, Wadi Dome, Hurghada Marina). It does not apply to Sharm El Sheikh, where you will be liable for further fees.
  • Overtime is charged after 1400 Saturday to Thursday, all day Friday and public holidays.
