Christmas Island Local Customs

The population of Christmas Island is a mixture of cultures including Chinese, Malay and Europeans predominantly from Australia.

The Malay Community is Muslim worshipping at the Mosque in the Kampong at Flying Fish Cove.  When visiting the Kampong, appropriate attire should be worn to respect the Muslim community. Women and men are asked to wear modest outfits that cover the shoulders and upper legs.

There are also a number of temples, shrines and Christian churches around the island so show the appropriate respect when visiting any of these sites.
