Cape Verdes Yachting Essentials

Electricity

Voltage: 220 V / Frequency: 50 Hz

Only the marina at Mindelo provides power at the berths.

Water

Water is in short supply at all the islands.

Only in Mindelo is it usually possible to fill up the boat's tanks by a hose. Generally, it is necessary to transport it in containers from a tap.

Other than in Ilhas Fogo and Brava, it is better to avoid drinking local water as it is very chlorinated.

Fuel

Fuel usually can be obtained in most harbours but, with the exception of Mindelo, it will need to be collected by jerry can. Mindelo has a fuel berth.

LPG

Camping Gaz cylinders (which uses the same fittings in Europe and the UK), can be exchanged in most towns (usually at the Shell filling station), and are cheap compared to UK costs.

Other cylinders can be re-filled (with butane) by Enacol in Palmeira, Mindelo and Praia (see individual port pages for details).

It is recommended to have a variety of refilling adapters, not only for use in the Cape Verdes, but for beyond.

Getting Work Done:

Mindelo is the safest and only real option for haulout and lay up.

Marine Spares

Mindelo is the only place with a chandlery.

Other towns do have hardware shops where some useful items can be found.
