Maddalena Archipelago - Docking

Winds and sea states vary enormously around these islands. The heights of the land causing wind funnels, as well as wind shadows.

Anchorages:

The area abounds in anchorages, so the shelter can be found in most conditions. Within the National Park area, there is now a charge for anchoring. The Park Authority has laid down mooring buoys is several places, but they are not always in sufficient depth for yachts. Please note that other moorings may exist within the park which are not covered by the parking permit. Many of the most attractive places get very busy with tourist boats, especially during peak hours.

Marinas:

There are several marinas here:

The marina of Cala Gavetta, also known as La Maddalena Marina, is managed by the  Municipality of La Maddalena and while small, is the main marina here. It is located in a natural inlet where the ancient city of La Maddalena was built in the mid-18th century and is sandwiched between the ferry port and the town. As it's next to the main road, it can be noisy during the day. Offers electricity and water in the marina price, shower, toilets and laundry (at cost). Bookings necessary. Summer costs high but out of season very reasonable.

Situated east of the Cala Gavetta is Cala Mangiavolpe, which houses 2 marinas; Ecomar Arl and Marina di Cala Mangiavolpe. Both are small, reported to have very friendly staff and close to amenities, however, Marina di Cala Mangiavolpe is just a pontoon and has no services.

One and a half miles east of Cala Gavetta is the harbour of Cala Camiciotto - accessed through the gap between the island of Santo Stefano and the breakwater extending south from the small island of Isola Chiesa. There are eight pontoons and berths for yachts in transit - maximum length 20 metres. The quay to the right of the pontoons is a military zone.

Two miles to the east of Cala Gavetta is Marina del Ponte, next to the bridge connecting the island to Isola Caprera. Berthing on a long floating pontoon and mooring buoys. It has limited berths for yachts over 30 feet (max. length 25m), but offers a range of yachting services.
