Indonesia - Pets

It is advisable to microchip your pet before travel.

Dogs must be vaccinated against rabies, distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus, parainfluenza and bordetella.

Cats must be vaccinated against rabies, calicivirus, panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis, and chlamydia.

A rabies titre test is required for pets arriving in Indonesia from countries that are not rabies-free.

Documents required:

Import permit issued by the Director of Animal Health from the Ministry of Agriculture.

Animal Health Certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian from the originating country. The health certificate must be obtained within five days of travel.

Rabies vaccination certificate. The vaccination must have been administered at least 30 days and not more than 1 year before travel.

Notes:

Pets are not permitted to enter Indonesia's rabies-free areas unless they are traveling from a country that Indonesia regards as having no rabies.

Pets are not permitted to enter the following areas: Madura and surrounding area, Bali province, Kupang, Sumba, Nusa Tenggara Barat province, Nusa Tenggara Timur province, Maluku province, Irian Jaya province, Kalimantan Barat province or all islands included in the Sumatran area (Batam, Bintan, Bangka Belitung), West Kalimantano, West Papua, East Nusa Tenggars, West Nusatenggar, Ballio Island of Maduro, East Java, Central Java and Yogyakarta.

Animals must remain on board when visiting most islands in Indonesia including Bali and Batam.  In particular, there are severe penalties on Bali for landing animals.
