This is a wide open and deep port with no real protection from north-east winds. Depths range from 20 - 40 metres.
Anchor in 15-40 metres to the south east of the commercial piers.
An alternative, is an anchorage off the Sea World Resort, about 6 nm east of Maumere. Depths are 10 to 20m. Holding is suspect but just off the river mouth is good. Plenty of chains is advisable as is giving other vessels plenty of room.
A large set of rocks is visible during the daytime at S 08 37.915 E 122 18.643 but invisible at night.
The bay is subject to high land breezes. Yachts have reported 25- 30-knot winds and 1.5 to 2m seas. Insect repellent is advisable because of insects/flies.
