Honduras Immigration Procedure for Yachts

Passports should be valid for six months beyond your entry date into Honduras. You will be denied entry into Honduras if there is not enough space for entry and exit stamps in your passport.

Residents of South America or individuals traveling through South America to Honduras must show proof of the Yellow Fever Vaccination.

Do I need a Visa?

Spanish and European Union nationals do not require a visa to enter Honduras.

No pre-arrival visas are required for nationals of Australia, Canada, USA, Argentina, Chile, Curaçao, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Iceland, Japan, Liechtenstein, Malta, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Peru, San Marino, Switzerland and Uruguay.

A pre-arrival visa is required for British citizens to enter Honduras (including the Bay Islands). See the UK Foreign Travel Advice for Honduras website for additional information. It should be noted that the process is particularly cumbersome, requiring the completion of various forms and applications, submission of a background check, payment of fees and attendance at an in-person interview at a Honduran embassy outside Honduras (e.g. Columbia, Panama, Guatemala, or Belize) with associated travel and accommodation expenses for the interview. It is recommended to call the embassy first to be sure it is issuing the visa and what documentation is required.

Other nationalities may require a visa. Visit the National Institute of Migration (Spanish language website) for more information or contact your closest Honduran Diplomatic Mission.

Length of Stay

Visitors not requiring a visa can stay for a period of 90 days (three months) as tourists.

Other Visa Information

Honduras is a member country to the Central American Border Control Agreement (CA-4), along with El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua. With a CA-4 tourist visa, you can travel freely between member countries within the 90-day period. Your tourist card is dated from the first point of entry in any member country and must be purchased on arrival.

The CA-4 visa can be extended before it expires at the National Institute of Migration for a value in national currency equivalent to USD $ 20.00 for each extended month. Alternatively to remain in the region longer than your visa allows, a minimum of a 3-day visit to a country outside the CA-4 area must be made and a new visa will be issued on re-entry.

A yellow slip of paper will be stapled or folded into your passport – don’t lose it, as you’ll have to turn it in when you leave, or get it stamped if you extend your stay.

Note: Some identification should always be carried, as the police often do spot checks.
