Many buses depart country-wide from Puerto Montt bus station from which "Carretera Panamericana" links the town to the rest of the country. From Avenida Portales, in the south of the town, there are international buses to Argentina.
For getting around locally use buses called "collectivos". They cost very little and you can flag them down anywhere. Buy the ticket on the bus with cash. The collectivos stop outside the Puerto Montt bus terminal. Heading back from Puerto Montt to the marinas, look for collectivos that say Chinquihue or Estadio Chinquihue.
Regular ferries run to Chiloe, Chaiten, Chacabuco, Laguna, Puerto Eden and Puerto Natales.
There is an airport (El Tepual) providing domestic flights.
