Cambodia - Clearance

Nov 30, 2024

There are two clearance ports in Cambodia, - Khao Kong and Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.  Formalities must be done through an agent via e-mail or phone in advance of arrival. The agent should also be able to help with visa issues.

A visiting yacht must present the boat registration papers, clearance papers from the last port and have a 30-day tourist visa for all crew and passengers. Arrival without a visa is possible but there is a substantial cost per person for on-the-sport processing. See Immigration for more details.

Khao Kong

Khao Kong is 10 kms south of the border with Thailand and cruising yachts coming from Thailand can find their way up river at high tide or follow a fishing boat to anchor off the main town just south of the bridge.

With prior planning, staff at the Cambodian Tourist Office, or Laurent's Cafe can assist with clearance procedures and transport to the border post where entry is simple.

Sihanoukville Autonomous Port

Clearance is reported to be easy further south at Sihanoukville, the main port and harbour for Cambodia where authorities are again allowing yachts to check in after previously making yachts backtrack to Khao Kong.

This report of one cruiser's experience will give some idea of the difficulties involved if clearing in or out at Khao Kong. Clearance procedures for Cambodia - Our Experience
