  • Cambodia is bordered by Thailand, Laos and Vietnam and has a a short coastline on the Gulf of Thailand.
  • The influences of many Asian cultures, as well as France and the United States, can be seen in the capital, Phnom Penh which is located at the confluence of the Mekong, Tonle Sap and Bassac rivers.
  • The 21st century has seen much more political stability for the country after decades of unrest and bloodshed.
  • Tourism is becoming one of the most important service activities in Cambodia, is the fastest-growing segment of the economy and a major source of overseas investment.
  • While most of Cambodia's tourism is still largely land-based, the coastline and offshore islands are one of South-East Asia's best-kept secret cruising grounds.
  • Most of the population in Cambodia speak Khmer which is the the country's official language.  Most people also speak English which is mostly taught in schools and used as a common language between the various ethnic groups. The French language was commonly spoken during colonization but was replaced by English after Cambodia's independence from France in 1953.
  • The Cambodian Riel (KHR) is the official currency of the Cambodia.
  • Cambodia time is GMT/UTC: +07:00 hours. Cambodia is not currently observing Daylight Saving Time.
  • Sparsely populated beaches on the mainland are a bonus to yachts cruising through the region and the offshore islands of the Koh Rong Group offer plenty of year-round anchorage opportunities.
  • The southwest monsoon brings the rainy season from mid-May to mid-September or to early October, and the northeast monsoon flow of drier and cooler air lasts from early November to March.
  • There are two clearance ports for Cambodia - Koh Rong and Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.
