On Terceira, the main storage tanks for propane/butane are now at Praia da Vitoria. It is not possible to get bottles refilled by taking them to the depot itself. Instead, it is necessary to leave the bottle at a fuel station who will then send them to the depot to be filled and returned. This usually takes 3 to 5 days, sometimes 2 weeks.
Cruisers report that the cheapest place for gas filling is at the fuel station opposite the supermarket, about a 10 min walk away through the center of the city (June 2012: 5,5 kg Butan 7,40 Euro). Leave your gas bottle here and it takes 3 working days to get filled.
