An ascent of Pico is a strenuous hike from the visitor centre about half way up the mountain. Good walking shoes or boots are essential as the cindery footpath is hard work.
Ensure that any scrimshaw purchased is accompanied by the necessary certificates to enable you to legally purchase and export whalebone items.
There is a museum on the history of whaling just outside the village.
