Arriving in Antarctica with a Pet onboard

  • The Antarctica Treaty designates Antarctica a natural reserve, and the Antarctic Conservation Act safeguards its ecosystems. This rule applies to all US citizens and US-originating expeditions. It is forbidden to bring any non-native species into Antarctica. This includes live poultry, pet dogs and cats.
  • When introducing non-native animals or plants into Antarctica, a permit is required for any British expedition, vessel, or aircraft. Contact the Polar Regions Department at Email: polarregions@fcdo.gov.uk
