Durres - Clearance

Nov 06, 2023

See Albania Formalities for detailed Clearance Information.

Call Port Control on VHF Channel 15 or 16, who will direct the boat to an area of the commercial port (possibly with a pilot).

You will probably be asked to anchor in the bay and take the dinghy into the commercial dock, alongside police boats and tugs.   Protection is very good but strong southerly winds may cause a surge to the inner basin.

An agent is required in Durres to deal with formalities and the associated paperwork.  It is recommended to contact the agent in advance. See Clearance Agents for more details.

If berthing at Cristian Marina (located within the port), clearance can be carried out there and they have an on-site agency to assist.

Clearance procedures are reported to be quick and efficient and it is possible to anchor one more night in Albanian waters after receiving your clearance and before departure (if conditions are not suitable to depart straight away after clearing out), provided you stay on your boat and do not go ashore.
