Gallipoli - Docking

Jun 20, 2017

There are a number of marinas/sailing clubs with visitor’s berths. One in the south-east corner of the commercial port (expensive), and one just outside the commercial port but still partially protected by the harbour breakwater. Calling on VHF channel 16 might work, arms waving seems best to get attention.

In strong northerlies or north-easterlies a significant swell sets up and affects the marinas just outside the commercial harbour. Even the marina inside the commercial harbour is affected. In really bad conditions it might be better to anchor off south of the town close to the sandy beaches. In any case, stay well clear of the pontoons in these conditions.

Marinas have lazy lines and ormeggiatori will assist with docking. Power and water are included in the mooring fees and some have free wifi.

In case of an emergency, haul-out facilities and some repairs are available here.

Good supermarkets, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, ATM’s and cell phone providers in town. Train and bus connections to other parts of Italy.

Added as new port June 2017.
