Duquesne Bay Petroglyphs

Located on the rock face at the southern end of Duquesne Bay these Late Troumassoid / Suazoid period images are accessible examples of Grenada’s Amerindian petroglyphs, though some are in poor condition. Duquesne Bay is on the west coast road. Note there are several petroglyphs in Duquesne Bay and some are not immediately obvious. Past visitors recommend stopping at the roadside cafe on the bay and asking for a guide.

Leapers’ Hill (le Morne des Sauteurs in French, or Caribs’ Leap)

Located north of town on the promontory where St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, School, and Cemetery are located. Go up the hill past the school to the cemetery gate. Once through the cemetery gate, there’s a steep cliff face that drops over 100 feet to the sea. This is the point where Grenada’s Carib inhabitants are said to have jumped to their deaths rather than be enslaved.
