Description:
This large area of protected water off the southern coast of Brittany, makes a wonderful sailing area. Bounded on the west by the Presqu’ile de Quiberon, with the islands on Belle Ile, Houat and Hoedic stretching away to the SE. To the north, on the Bretton mainland, is the sailing centre of La Trinite-sur-Mer. On the western side is the entrance to the Golfe de Morbihan which give access to the wonderful medieval towns of Auray and Vannes.
Cruiser Highlights:
Any boat repairs or marine parts are likely to be found at La Trinite-sur-Mer.
For those interested in history, Vannes and Auray are both fascinating towns. Also the prehistoric standing stones at Carnac make another interesting visit.
The completely sheltered water of the Gulf of Morbihan, with its many small islands can provide a week or more of calm, enjoyable cruising. Perfect for crews with children.
Entrance Notes:
The tides through the narrow entrance to the Morbihan are extremely strong and it is essential to take note of the local sailing directions as it is impossible to enter or leave against the tidal stream.
