Customs Rules for Yachts Arriving Faroes

Customs Arrival Procedures:

When arriving from foreign countries, the following forms must be filled out and sent to Customs 24 hours prior to arrival:

Four (4) hours notice is also required by either e-mail or phone.

  • Customs: customs@taks.fo or +298 44 73 05 (24 hours)

Length of Stay:

Foreign yachts can spend up to three (3) months in the Faroes.

If yachts wish to stay longer, they can apply to Customs by filling out the Faroes Application for Temporary Admission of Leisure Craft and sending it to customs@taks.fo.

Other Customs Information:

The Faeroes have a tradition of "prohibition" (i.e. no alcohol) although alcoholic drinks can now be purchased from special state shops (Rúsdrekkasøla Landsins). Since 1992 the licensing laws have been relaxed and there are now licensed restaurants and pubs.

Yachts are allowed small quantities on board for their own use (one bottle of spirits per person, slightly more of wine), but it is frowned upon to take alcohol ashore.

Whale meat is available in The Faroe Islands but importing it into the UK/EU is illegal under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.
