Port Ghalib - Clearance

Oct 07, 2022

Port Ghalib is an official port of entry to Egypt.

See Egypt Formalities for full details on clearing into and out of Egypt.

The Ministry of Maritime Transport has issued new procedures for yacht entry into Egypt and this has greatly increased fees for entry and services. Currently new fees are being implemented in all ports, except Suez Canal ports. The new fees are being charged in Port Ghalib. See Fees for details.

Cruisers warn that fees are high here.

General Process:

  • No yachts can proceed to this marina without prior registration on the Maritime Sector Website. See Egypt Formalities for details.
  • All yachts must have an agent. There are 2 licensed agents in this port, as approved by the Egyptian
Maritime Transport Sector. These are Felix Maritime Agency and Nasco
Tours. See Clearance agents for details.
  • E-mail the marina 72 hours before arrival including the following: ETA, Yacht details, Period of stay, diesel if you need it, Registration Certificate, Crew List, Last Port Clearance, Last 10 Ports of call, and Period of stay.
  • Call port control on VHF Ch:10 or 16, preferably 2 hours before arrival, otherwise well before reaching the entrance channel.
  • Yachts are not allowed to enter the marina after sunset. It is recommended to enter in the morning and be careful.
  • From the entrance buoys, you will be directed to the Customs dock to complete all necessary formalities and meet the Agent (or you may be asked to wait in Marsa Umbark 2 miles south of the entrance). Expect to wait on the Customs dock for at least 6 hours. Have strong fenders for protection from the concrete wall.
  • Yacht owners also need to fill in a Customs declaration form and present it to the agent for processing.
  • Drones & weapons are restricted at Port Ghalib as customs will inspect the yacht on arrival and will hold them if found on board until departure against extra storage fees.
  • See Customs for further rules.
  • Once all cleared, you will then be moved to a berth mooring bow or stern-to using a mooring buoy. Berthing assistance is provided.
  • Fees are payable only once per visit to Egypt at any licensed port of entry. The marina will issue a receipt which should be shown at subsequent ports or marinas so as not to have to pay additional fees for formalities. This applies to tourist marinas (such as Abu Tig Marina, Wadi Dome, Hurghada Marina). It does not apply to Sharm El Sheikh, where you will be liable for further fees.

Clearing out of Egypt:

Clearance must be done with your agent. Once outward clearance is obtained, yachts must leave within 24 hours, or obtain another clearance.
