Barahona - Docking

Nov 16, 2022

Anchor in the tranquil mangrove anchorage at the northeast corner of the small basin at the end of the well-marked commercial channel. Mud bottom. Dinghies can be parked at the "yacht club".

Anchorages:

There are three apparent anchorages in the port basin:

  • The best is in the tranquil mangrove anchorage at the northeast corner of the small basin at the end of the well-marked commercial channel - by the “Club Nautico”. Dinghies can be left at the club. The only downside is the straight edged shoreline to the north which is a berth for ships delivering coal to the power station.  You may have to leave this anchorage if a big ship comes in. Lots of mosquitos according to cruiser reports.
  • The second option is to the north of the commercial pier. This is near the Armada building and is where they would like you to anchor, however, tends to be more exposed and subject to swell.  Fewer mosquitos here and out of reach for the Sargassum weed
  • The third option is to the south among the reefs off Pta los Ingleses. The water is smooth behind the reefs.

Docking:

It is possible to tie up to the commercial pier jutting out from the town in the southwest corner. There is a charge for this however for a minimum of 24 hours, so only dock if you are willing to pay.
