Security for Yachts visiting Kenya

Due to terrorist and piracy activity in the area, reliable travel advice, such as that provided by the UK FCDO website, should be checked before visiting.

Piracy and armed robbery continue to pose a substantial concern along the coast of Somalia, the Gulf of Aden, and the Indian Ocean.

There is a problem of theft in some places and outboard engines, dinghies and any loose equipment should be put away or watched carefully, except in the few places where security is provided. In some places for a minimal charge, one can employ a guard for the night.

If planning to visit national parks or game reserves, use registered tour operators with a good reputation and get recommendations on travel firms and guides from the Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO).

The Kenya Tourism Federation Safety and Communication Center provides tourist advice and emergency help.
