It's illegal to take photos of official buildings, get advice before taking photos.

It's also illegal to destroy the local currency, smoke outside designated areas, possess ivory, and use single-use plastic bags.

It’s also a criminal offense to tear or deface a banknote of any denomination.

Kenya has conservative dress and behaviour standards, especially in coastal and rural areas. Visitors are advised to dress modestly. In Nairobi, shorts, dresses, and sleeveless tops are acceptable in towns and safaris, and most beach resorts, but swimwear is not appropriate for walking around.

Topless sunbathing is prohibited.

It’s good to be aware of the left-hand rule: traditionally the left hand is reserved for unhygienic acts and the right for eating and touching, or passing things to others.

The Islamic holiday month of Ramadan is observed in Kenya, and it is important to respect religious and cultural customs and laws during this time.
