Kilifi - General Info

Jul 20, 2024

Description:

Kilifi lies on the Kilifi Creek and sits on the estuary of the Goshi River. This Creek provides visiting yachts with a very protected place to moor securely, great kite surfing, beautiful mangroves and a sociable and friendly boatyard where boats can safely be left whilst the crew explore the interior.

The town is known for its beach and for the ruins of Mnarani, including mosques and tombs, dating from the 14th to the 17th century. As well as being close to Mombasa and Malindi, it's also close to the Tsavo with its complex of national and private game parks.

The markers through the entrance between the reefs are difficult to spot. See tips on entering in this report. At night the majority of beacons are lit although maintenance can be infrequent.

The bridge that spans the Creek has a clearance of 72 ft (22 m). One must also be careful not to touch the telephone and power lines, which are difficult to see.
