Cork Harbour (Crosshaven and Cobh) - General Info

Aug 09, 2016

Description:

Cork Harbor is a natural harbor and river estuary at the mouth of the River Lee in County Cork, Ireland. It is one of the largest natural harbors in the world by navigational area, very much like Halifax Harbor in Canada and Poole Harbor in England.

This area of sheltered water dotted with islands has a moderately wide entrance with shallow water in the middle, opening out into a large expanse of water and shoreline varying from beautiful woodland, picturesque waterfronts to power plants.

The best part of the harbor for visiting yachts is Crosshaven, where there are three marinas, fuel and repair facilities.

Entrance Notes and Cautions:

Keep a good lookout when transiting this very busy harbour as even large commercial vessels can travel at speed here.

See Port of Cork Notices to Mariners.

Position:

51° 46.580' N, 008° 15.460' W (harbor entrance waypoint)
