No Indian currency may be imported or exported. So exchange receipts should be kept for reconversion on departure. Foreign currency must be declared to Customs on arrival or it could be confiscated.
Online payment for things in India is sometimes hindered if you don’t have an Indian credit card. Cruisers have reported problems trying to pay duty charges with FedEx or UPS online.
