Hawaii - Health

The Queen's Medical Centre, located on Oahu, is Hawaii's largest trauma center. Additional hospitals can be found on each of the major islands.

Decompression sickness can be treated at the University of Hawaii Hyperbaric Treatment Centre (HTC), which is located in the Kuakini Medical Centre.

Travel insurance is recommended.

Vaccine-Preventable Diseases:

Make sure you are up to date with routine vaccinations.

Hepatitis A and B vaccinations are recommended.

Food and Water Concerns:

Tap water in Hawaii is generally safe to drink. However, if you’re not fond of the taste or are concerned about potential contaminants, opt for bottled water. Always check local advisories about water quality, especially after heavy rains or reported incidents.

Hawaii is at very high risk of Ciguatera which can be found on each of the Hawaiian Islands.

Mosquito-borne Diseases:

Malaria is not normally present unless the illness is contracted abroad.

Dengue and zika are not endemic in Hawaii, cases reported were from exposures outside the state. However, Aedes species mosquitoes being able to transmit Zika virus are present in Hawaii.

Prescription Drugs:

Non-prescription medications such as pain relievers, cold remedies, and first aid treatments are accessible at drugstores, pharmacies, and supermarkets.
