Animals must be declared and should have a Pet Passport. Cats and Dogs must have a health certificate no more than 10 days upon arrival from last country and rabies vaccination not older than 1 year. Pets are allowed ashore after clearance.

If you arrive by boat and you want to leave the boat in Rio Dulce and fly home to the US or Europe with your pet, then things get very complicated and a little expensive. You need a visit from a vet and then you have to do a lot of paperwork which can be done only in Guatemala City, which takes a lot of time. Some marinas may be able to assist with the paperwork.
