COVID-19: OPEN

  • Germany lifted all of its remaining COVID-19 restrictions on June 11, 2022.

History: 

  • Germany introduced border controls with France, Austria, Switzerland, Luxemburg and Denmark on March 16, 2020.
  • A week later Germany went into lockdown and all German Islands closed. No recreational sailing was permitted, marinas/harbors closed and yacht owners were not permitted to sleep on their boats. Transit through the Kiel Canal was no longer possible.
  • At the start of April there was no entry into Germany for foreigners.
  • Mid-April, residents were once again permitted to launch boats and go sailing, with overnight stays permitted.
  • Yachts in transit needing assistance were accepted in a select number of ports.
  • June 15, 2020, Germany's sea borders opened to EU travelers as long as yachts were not coming from high-risk countries.
  • In January 2021 German restricted travel from a handful of countries, including the UK, Ireland, Portugal, Brazil and South Africa.
  • June 2022 Germany lifted all restrictions.
