Degrad des Cannes - General Info

Description: This is the main port of French Guiana, located on the NW bank of the Mahury river, however facilities ashore are very limited. Note:  From January 1, 2023 the Grand Port Maritime de la Guyane advised that the "parking and anchoring of pleasure craft is no longer permitted within the port limits.  The use of the pontoons is exclusively reserved for authorized professional vessels." Visiting yachts can still anchor further upstream on the river at Levée de Matoury or Ponte de Roura in a sheltered anchorage. Cruiser Highlights: Head upriver a couple of miles and you will find yourselves deep in the jungle. There is a small bar up here where you can anchor overnight. The islands lying off the mouth of the river, should not be missed. Entrance Notes and Cautions: The buoyed channel is excellent and well lit, although reports recommend to enter in daylight at slack flood or on a rising tide as the tides run strong (more than 3 knots). It may be shallow at buoy 12 (mud bottom), however they dredge the channel often.  With the port limits closed to pleasure craft, visiting boats should head upriver and anchor near the Roura Bridge.
