El Salvador Immigration Procedure for Yacht Crew

Upon arrival in El Salvador a tourist must present a passport that is valid for six months.

Do you need a visa?

No prior visa is required by nationals of Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Republic of Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Uruguay.

All other nationalities require a visa which must be purchased on entry.

El Salvador now grants tourist visas for 180 days at a cost of US$12. To remain in the region longer, a visit to a country outside the CA-4 area must be made and a new visa will be issued on re-entry.

The Central America-4 Free Mobility Agreement (CA-4; Spanish: Convenio Centroamericano de libre movilidad) allows for movement across the borders of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua without restrictions or checks. Tourists who enter one of the four countries can also travel to the other countries, however, only overland (not by boat).  Therefore, if you take your boat to one of the other countries, you will have to get a new visa and Zarpe.

Other Visa Information

Visa extensions are no longer permitted.
