Ecuador - Local Customs

Sep 06, 2024

Being polite goes a long way in Ecuador. Before starting any conversation always be sure to greet the person you are speaking to with a good morning (buenos dias) or good afternoon (buenas tardes) and shake their hand on arrival and departure.

Men should not wear hats indoors and shorts or skirts should not be worn inside churches.

Topless or nude sunbathing is not tolerated.

When dealing with officials, maintain a positive outlook and keep polite. If you get in a bad mood things could easily turn against you as shouting and being rude is frowned upon.
