Ecuador - Immigration

Sep 06, 2024

Immigration Procedure:

When you first enter Ecuador, you will receive a T-3 tourist stamp in your passport, allowing you to stay in the country for 90 days. Only one T-3 tourist stamp is permitted in your passport a year, but it can be extended for a further 90 days. If you leave the country before the 90 days is up, the clock on the 90 days stops until you return.

Some nationalities need to apply for a visa in advance.

List of countries that must present a visa when entering Ecuador.

Notes:

  • Passports must be valid for at least six months. Ensure that your passport is stamped on entry.
  • It is a legal requirement to carry ID. You should keep a photocopy of your passport pages including your photograph and Ecuadorean immigration entry stamp with you at all times.
  • It is mandatory to present a Health Insurance certificate.
  • All documents not in Spanish are required to have a notarized translation.
  • There is an automatic $200 fine (with an upper limit of $2000) for an expired visa.

Other Visa Information:

You can extend your stay beyond the initial 90 days and get an additional 90 days for $150. This extension to the T-3 tourist stamp does not stop counting if you leave the country.

The current rule is that you can apply for your extension on days 80 to 90 of your first 90 days in Ecuador.

Visitors can apply at any local migraciones office or online.

If you try to extend your stay beyond 90 days, you will be given a 30-day grace period, however, a fine must be paid.
