Dominican Republic - Immigration

Apr 04, 2025

Immigration Procedure:

All visitors must have a valid passport.

For most nationals, a 30-day Tourist Visa Card is issued on arrival for US$10. Citizens of Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Israel, Japan, Perú, South Korea and Uruguay do not require a Tourist Card or a visa.

List of countries covered by a Tourist Card.

The Tourist Visa Card can be renewed online at https://servicios.migracion.gob.do/, however, most tourists tend to pay the overstay fine on checking out which reduces in cost the longer you stay. See Fees for details. That said, the overstay fees have increased in December 2023, so it might be cheaper to renew online.

There is no limit as to how long you can stay in the DR.

Keep your card in a safe place with your passport.

Other Visa Information:

If a visa is required, all applications must be authorized by the authorities in the Dominican Republic prior to arrival.

If sailing from the DR to Puerto Rico, see information for non-USA/Canadian passport holders as to how the ESTA process can be used for short stays.
