Bringing Your Pet to Croatia

Two useful European Commission links for traveling with pets in the EU:

1. Travelers' Points of Entry if coming from a third country with a dog, cat or ferret – country specific information

2. Animal health requirements applicable to dogs, cats and ferrets moved into EU countries – country specific information

Croatia's Rules if coming from an EU country

Dogs and Cats must:

  • be vaccinated against rabies with a valid vaccine at the time of travel
  • be identified with a microchip, or tattoo
  • have a European pet passport
  • If the pet is not traveling with its owner, the authorized person shall have a written authorization signed by the owner

Entry into the Republic of Croatia is allowed for dogs and cats from other EU Member States, which are:

  • younger than 12 weeks and unvaccinated against rabies, or
  • aged between 12 and 16 weeks and are vaccinated against rabies, but do not yet meet the requirements of the valid anti-rabies vaccination

The following requirements must be met during the entry of the pet:

  • they must be identified with a transponder
  • they must be accompanied by an EU identification document (passport)
  • the animal(s) are accompanied by a statement signed by the owner or authorized person
  • the pet animals are accompanied by their mother on whom they still depend. The identification document of their mother shows she received an anti-rabies vaccine prior to giving birth
