Description:
Talcahuano is in central Chile, on Concepción Bay. It is the port for the city of Concepción. This harbor is one of the finest along the Pacific coast of South America. It serves large ships as well as being the site of the principal Chilean naval base. It was severely damaged in the tsunami of 2010.
The city is connected by rail to Concepción, Santiago, and Valdivia.
